Skin City

As I’m sure you've heard, some nude photos of some celebrities have been leaked onto the internet.  That sucks.  Like a lot.  I’d be mortified if nude photos of me were put out there…on the internet.  It’s a gross invasion of privacy.  If consenting adults want to take or pose for nude photos or make a sex tape, it’s America.  Help yourself.  People don’t have a right to hack into your life and reveal your private affairs to the whole world – no matter who you are.   Entertaining people through music or movies or your art doesn't mean that your body belongs to the world.

Of course, everyone (myself included) has an opinion.  There are those that say the photos shouldn't be there in the first place.  People can’t hack into what isn’t there.  That pisses people off because they say it’s like we’re blaming the victim.  They’re couching in the “she was asking for it” response, likening this entire thing to rape.  I think that’s taking it too far.  Having your house broken into (even virtually) can definitely make you feel violated, but putting it on the same level as rape is insensitive and inflammatory.

Honestly, I’m of two minds about the whole thing.   On one hand, people should be able to do what they want.  If I want to take nude pictures of myself and send them to my husband (or anyone else), that’s my right, right?

On the other hand, I feel the same about the nude photos the way I feel about putting out the box at the curb that my new TV came in.

I work hard. I earned the money to buy myself a really nice television.  I love my TV, but I’m not going to advertise to the entire fucking neighborhood that I have a new brand new flat screen.  Same way you don’t leave your purse or wallet sitting on the seat of your car in plain view while you go into the store, because people don’t always do the right thing.  Because there are actually people that make their living hunting celebrities.

Then there’s life – like losing your phone or having your computer stolen at the airport.  The little shits figure out how to get in and bam – they've got your whole life – even the jiggly, squishy, under the bathing suit parts.

That being said, unless you’re willing to accept the risk – the worst case scenario – then maybe the photos (or video) isn’t such a good idea.  A sex tape might sound adventurous and illicit and exciting in the moment – it’s turned some people into millionaires - but what if the tape gets out?  What if the tape doesn't get erased? What if strangers saw the tape?  What if your Mom or Dad saw it?  Would that be OK?

If you’re not even the tiniest bit unsettled by the possibility that people other than the stars of your sex tape or sexy photos will see them, then by all means, keeps the camera rolling.

BUT, if, on the off chance they end up on Mail Online or Facebook, maybe you should just keep the sexy sexy time in your mind – in the Spank Bank – for later.

All that being said, why don't they ever hack nude photos of Chris Hemsworth or Stephen Amell?
