"A lot of mothers will do anything for their children, except let them be themselves." - Banksy
I’m a
mother.
I ask myself this question often. How do I let my kids be themselves?
Honestly,
what is the difference between letting your kids be themselves and gently
guiding their behavior?
What if
your kid is a lazy asshole? Is it OK to
let that train reach its destination? (e.g. a 45 year old sitting on your
couch, asking you what’s for dinner?).
Kids don’t
come here with manuals. This shit isn’t
easy to figure out. Sometimes you think
you have a handle on it and then BOOM! a tidal wave comes, wipes out your sand
castle and you have to start all over again.
I don’t
have any answers. I’m just hoping that
the people my kids turn out to be are people I can actually stand…or else my “golden
years” are going to be pretty lonely.
